The countries around the world want to be on the track of development and also want to be ahead in the race. As a result, they are ignoring the means to achieve the development and following the model of development that is not sustainable. One of the major and the most prominent way of procuring raw materials in this model of development is mining.
The adverse effects of mining on environment are manifold. Here are a few of them:
It leads to the destruction of forests and wetlands. The area that is to be mined needs to be cleared on the surface, affecting the forests adversely and leading to large scale deforestation.
Not only the area that’s going to be mined but also the route to it is cleared off any forests. These routes need to be developed as a road for easy accessibility. This means you also have to cut down a hell lot of trees just to get to the area being mined.
