Disappearing ice is altering the ecosystems gradually.
There is a lot of shrinking sea ice, glaciers and snow in the high regions and here water is seen to be frozen for some time. This is seen to affect the ecosystem in many ways. Scientists have seen how many animals like polar bears and penguins are reacting to the loss of habitat, but slowly the effects of the cryosphere on organisms is being seen.
The way sea ice is disappearing is also decreasing the uptake of carbon di oxide in the sea from the air.
Snowpack changes and also alters the suitability of the plant species. The amount of carbon di oxide also is affected by the melting permafrost. The carbon di oxide is taken out by the plants and the microbes in the atmosphere.
So it is seen that decreasing snowfall in many regions actually threatens the animals which burrow, and also makes the roots of the plants totally susceptible to injury as the snow is a great insulator.
The microbes like diatoms live [...]
