Solar Energy is turning out to be that boon of a source of energy that seems to have a solution to the entire power requirement that the world would require. Solar power is known to be one of the cleanest sources of energy, with virtually no offset, as depends purely on the heat of the sun hitting upon panels of solar or photovoltaic cells. However, it would be wrong not to put it out into the open, the various solar power pros and cons. It seems like energy is the best and could be considered the cleanest source of energy.
Here are of the solar power pros and cons that one must keep in mind while looking at the benefits of solar energy, especially considering the fact that most people tell you only the positive or the negative. An unbiased, open view of the two is necessary if an in-depth analysis of solar energy is to be made.
Possibly the greatest benefit of making use of solar power for the production of energy is that it can be harnessed from even the most remote of locations, especially those that are not connected to national grids. One good example of solar energy being harnessed in a remote place is the use of solar panels in space to power satellites. The major con of solar energy is the initial cost of solar cells. Currently, prices of highly efficient solar cells can be above $1000, and some households may need more than one. This makes the initial installation of solar panels very costly.
One of the greatest cons of solar energy is the fact that one needs to make quite an investment when it comes to the installation of solar panels. The cost for solar cells of high efficiency is as much as $1000 per unit. Moreover, there will be need for more than one array of solar cells if the house or the office is larger. When one looks at the solar power pros and cons, one realizes that although there are glaring cons for it, there is no denying that at the end of the day, solar energy use as a power or energy source s one of the most brilliant ideas and definitely one that has brilliant potential to power the world.
One more CON
Solar panels do create pollution. The pollution they create is in the manufacturing process. In order to create a solar panel, you must refine the silicone and in that process you create silicon tetrachloride which is toxic. It makes the land infertile and toxic to humans. So you are only trading bad air pollution for something that is potentially more harmful if it gets into our water supply.
Solar has it place but it is factually wrong to state it does not produce pollution.
Amen!
That’s a huge Con they left out. How Solar panels are produced was my biggest question:)
People want to drive electric cars to be more “green” but do they wonder where the electricity comes from. Its just a trade off.
The best thing for our earth and humanity is to run out of oil.
