What can we expect from Global Warming?

Well we have seen tremendous changes in the global surface temperatures; it is already a significant impact already. There are so many devastating impacts of global warming and the far reaching effects on this planet. The entire planet runs on cyclic basis, and global warming alters the cycle, and modifies the complete pattern. It modifies the rainfall pattern, it influences in global erosions, changes the seasonal patterns in regions, it melts the ice caps along with the glaciers, it even alters the ranges of various infectious diseases, some of the changes are already quiet visible.

For many places, the global warming results in less cooler days and many hot days, with the impact happening more to the land, various regions can expect intense heat waves, and they can expect it quiet frequently. Well in certain areas, storms, floods and droughts will become frequent as the changes are seen in precipitation patterns. Hurricanes could gain their intensity as the ocean surfaces gets warmer and warmer. Well however it is almost impossible to pinpoint any single result due to the event of Global Warming, however hundreds and thousands of scientists working have already suggested about the evidence which could be seen due to the global warming, and its influences on the weather. Well the frequency of Heat waves, droughts, and the frequency of rains causing floods in several regions for the past fifty years, is more likely caused by the human influences and not due to natural cycles of the nature.

Well if you think Global Warming only impacts the weather, well think again, the even more dangerous impact is the rising sea levels due to melting of global glaciers. The water levels of the ocean are already rising and if the trend continues countries could be lost in the oceans and the frequency of flooding with drastically increase on the coastal areas. Especially some of the beautiful island nations such as Maldieves, and low lying countries such as the Netherlands could be under water. The worst part is more than ten percent of the global population lives in the area, which is less than 10 meters above the sea level. As per the history the level of sea has increased approximately 1.7 millimeters each year, and the total rise in sea level since then has been 221 millimeters. Since recently that rate of increase in sea level has increased drastically, especially since 1993, the average increase in sea level has been 3 millimeters per year, which is the total increase of 48 millimeters since them.

The intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC), which is a global organization which monitors the global warming, estimates that the sea levels will rise between 0.18 and 0.59 meters by 2009 as the warming sea water expands, and the glaciers and mountain ice melts. It is even suggested that the sea level change prediction could be widely underestimated, as they do not account for any increases in the rate at which the world’s major ice sheets are melting. It is quiet obvious that as the atmospheric temperature rises, the ice melts faster. Well as per the Satellite measurements, its is estimated each year approximately 125 billion tons of ice is melted from ice capped continents of Antarctica and Greenland, which is already more than enough to increase the sea level by 0.35 millimeter each year. Well at this rate of melting, the sea level could significantly increase to a higher.

The important thing is that global warming is already putting a lot of pressure on the ecosystems, well as we all known the plants and animals are dependent on each other in a particular climate zone, well both on lands also under the ocean. Several region are already experiencing longer warmer seasons, in the Northern hemispheres the warmer seasons have already extended by two weeks during the second half of the twentieth century. Even the spring approaches quiet earlier in this region. Well this kind of change affects a wide ecosystem. Migrating birds and animals would have to look for food earlier than normal; well the seasonal shifts may already be causing the lifecycles of pollinators, such as bees, to be out of synch with flowering plants and trees. Well the mismatch can already be causing the changes in lifecycles of pollinators, such as bees, to be out of synch along with the flowering plants and also the trees. This could be one of the important reasons for plants being extinct, reducing the food availability and break the food chain.

The warmer temperatures also stretches the growing season, which means that the plants require higher quantity of water in order to keep growing through out the season or they will dry out, which increases the crops failing risks and more chances of wild fires. Well once the growing season ends, milder winter fails to kill insects, and increases the risk of damaging and infestations in the later season. In some regions due to climate change could be so high that the certain plants and animals could find it difficult to survive and begin to migrate towards the poles, to which it could be difficult to for them to adapt, and faces extinction. Well it is estimated that approximately twenty to thirty percent of plants and animals species will be in the verge of extinction of the trend of increase in temperatures climb more than 1.5 to 2.5 degrees.

Well the changes to the weather and the atmosphere could also affect people more directly; well it is obvious that the maximum affect will be to the people in the low lying areas, and the people who live in the poor countries, who do not have many resources to survive. As the temperatures in the tropical zone stretches, the impact of spreading in infectious diseases such as malaria will change. More rains, rising sea levels and hurricanes will obviously lead to severe flooding and also potential loss of the property and life. Well the hotter summers and repeated forest fires will cause various heat strokes and human and animal deaths, and higher level of near surface ozone and smoke, causing quality of days with many more code red environment days. Dry seasons and droughts could lead to increase in malnutrition. As the time passes by the quantity of freshwater in the atmosphere could become lesser and lesser, especially during the time of summer, as the glaciers in the mountains disappear, mainly in the parts of Asia and North America.

Well on the flip side, there could be some good news in few places, as long as the global average temperatures will remain below three degree Celsius, some models of global warming predict that the food production will increase, as the result of growing seasons of harvesting, however the clause is that the availability of water in the region. However the small changes in temperature, however, would decrease in the production of the food, where various countries already face shortage in food supplies. On an average negative impact are more powerful than that of positive impact due the global warming. Current civilization – agriculture and population distribution- has developed based on the current climate, the more the climate changes, it increases the pace of change in the climate and it costs more and more for adapting the new climate, which could be a major impact even on the global economy.

Well all in all, global warming will impact life on this planet in various ways; however the changes we expect depends a lot on us. It is quiet evidently seen how the emissions of various gases are pushing the temperatures up, and various aspects of climate are actually responding as it actually predicted by the scientists from across the globe. Well this in a way offers hope to us, as man is the reason for the pollution; it is possible for him to control the situation. It is time to act accordingly and save the planet for our future generations. It is obvious that the planet will continue to change, however it is in our hands to see to it to how much extent it could be slowed do and reducing the un- natural processes of global warming. It all depends on our decision this day, not later!
